Never a slave to orthodoxy, Voilé Manufacturing has always been on the forefront of creative thinking and unusual ideas to help improve the backcountry skiing experience.
So when we asked ourselves how we might further modify the already-marvelous, incredibly-versatile V6, the answer seemed obvious: Take it fishing. And that’s exactly what we did—not for trout, bass or crappie—but by adding fish-like scales to its base, a feature we’ve dubbed the “Voilé Traction-Pattern Base.”
The Voilé V6 BC represents Voilé’s third foray into the domain of scaled-base skis, as preceded by the Vector BC and Charger BC. Admittedly, such skis are not for everyone or every variety of slope. That said, for the backcountry skier who must continually make long approaches over undulating terrain, the V6 BC’s can be a welcome godsend.
Thanks to the same lightweight Poplar core and carbon-fiber construction as the V6, as well as our signature Voilé Hybrid Rocker, the V6 BC will still impress when skiing steeper downhill pitches.
And who’s gonna argue in favor of the tedium of applying and removing skins too often?

Voile Hybrid Rocker
An intuitive, surf-like turn personality makes this a very easy ski to operate. Playful and responsive, with a turn radius on the tighter side. This ski is characterised as relaxed and easy-going.
Tip: Hybrid rocker tip and wide shovel provide unmatched float in powder.
Waist: Shorter running length with extended contact points. Engineered for agility. Cambered underfoot for stability.
Tail: Tapered hybrid rocker tail for smooth maneuverability in variable conditions.
Classic BC
Full Cap / Poplar / Carbon / Traction Pattern Base
Durable and damp poplar construction with triaxial fiberglass for uncompromising performance inbounds or off-piste.
Traction Pattern "BC" scalebase has been included underfoot to allow for fewer transitions when traversing rolling terrain.
Anti-Ice Topsheet
Crafted from exceptionally durable polyamide material, and designed with a unique texture that effectively reduces the accumulation of snow and ice. This innovative feature is particularly beneficial during long approaches or in freezing conditions, where snow and ice buildup would normally hinder performance.
Fiberglass Mounting Patch
Heel and toe mounting areas are reinforced to prevent binding pull-out during aggressive maneuvers through hard snow, effectively distributing the energy transferred between the skier and the ski. These skis are compatible with telemark bindings.
Voile Carbon-Weave
Voile Carbon-Weave combines the lightweight strength of carbon fiber with the durability of triaxial fiberglass. The strategic integration of carbon fiber into the ski's construction reduces weight while providing the perfect blend of responsiveness, stability, and energy transfer, allowing skiers to maneuver with precision and control.
Triaxial Fiberglass
Triaxial fiberglass increases dimensional stability along three axis, providing for balanced torsional stiffness and enhancing your ability to control the ski (precise and firm edge grip). Triaxial fiberglass maintains a consistent flex pattern throughout the ski, ensuring predictable performance across different snow conditions and skiing styles.
Full-Contact Steel Edge
Steel edges provide superior grip and control on hardpacked snow and icy conditions, enhancing stability and confidence while skiing. Two lengths of hardened steel with inset teeth wrap the perimeter of this ski. Each section is painstakingly shaped by hand to ensure a precise layup.
Sintered Black Base
This ski passes on the base graphics for the sake of an ultra-high molecular density base; making for faster downhill performance and greater wear/impact resistance. And you can rest assured that your p-tex repairs will be seamless after your day spent breaking the sound barrier.
Traction Pattern Base
For the backcountry skier who makes long approaches over rolling terrain, scaled base reduces the climbing skin transitions necessary to make it to their summit... perhaps negating the need for climbing skins entirely! The "scale base" underfoot creates friction against the snow surface when the ski is decambered, and then glides with the skier's forward stride.
Good for intended use
Used with 22D Lynx w/Scarpa TX Pros. After testing in May slush once these behave like scaled XC skis, so appx 20 deg is your max slope and a firm “set” of the ski needed when getting in that range while climbing. (like when things get steep with skins.) They glide much better than even nice skins, but there is expected drag on descent. Expect it with skating too. Get some NF liquid glide wax and put it on the scales to help with glide and glopping and have at those closed winter road approaches or traverses. Tight turns are easy on these skis. Even the non-hyper version is light. If you get creative on mounting, hold up to a light so you can see where the reinforcement pads are before you commit. Fun ski with a specific purpose.

Voile V6 BC 183cm
This ski design is a versatile workhorse - the most used in my stable of many fancy skis! Probably because of where I live. I've wore out a pair of the Hyper version, which I replaced with these. Imho, the hyper V6 was actually too light - the normal version is just perfect, still light, but more stable in variable snow with the added mass.

Could Be the Only Ski U Need
Took the V6BC out on soft Spring snow at a nearby closed area. Did not want the hassle of climbing skins for some laps. Climbing up a Blue Trail was fine & I had to Zig-Zag up on steeper sections, but I do that anyway, really enjoyed the lightness w/o skins. But the surprise was the ski down...I was surprised I did not notice a speed loss from the scales, very minor if anything. Even in dicey hard Spring snow, the V6BC was fun & gave confidence to pull off tight turns...this could be the only ski you need! See the video (https://youtu.be/2m48Ewkj_pw).

Exceeded All Expectations
I have now skied BC, CC and Alpine with these wonderful skis. Excellent in every context, to the point that I probably will get rid of my current Alpine skis and ski only these. Very stable at higher Alpine skiing speeds and extremely responsive, probably due to the forward location of the boot/binding on the ski and its relative softness. Bravo Voile

Too easy
Theres a bit of a learning curve with fish scale BC skis. I happen to live somewhere where these skis make a lot of sense. Mellow approaches to powder & corn stashes are too easy. Aim for a setup with minimal transition and you have a killer BC setup.

The Specialist
Specialist - is the name I would give the ski. I live in the front range with extremely long approaches. This ski is fast, cruzing up the old mining roads. The fish scales work perfect unless you need to click onto your higher riser, then it’s time to put your skins on.They are not the fastest at the ski resort but like I said they are Specialist. If you do a lot of up and down all around exploring this is the ski for you. I have two pairs!!

Simply Brilliant!!
What a Brilliant Ski!! Voile really nailed it with the V6 BC. Got these for short approaches, quick up and down skiing and approaches, that can be found in the NorthEast-Maine & NH. My primary use is skiing logged forest areas off the grid, and the V6 BC delivers. Easy -fast climbing and floats on the down. Skied it on Deep-dry powder 12-18"+, Deep Wind-firm powder, Wind-firm dense-firm snow, Soft Spring-like Powder-New Snow 8-10"+ and 2-5". Voile V6 BC 173cm
AMAZING skis. I put 22 design Axl on them. I telemark ski and i happily discovered that they are very easy to turn. They handle powder beautifully. The traction pattern is great, if that is what you are looking for, but it does slow the skis down a little bit but that was expected. I would recommend them for sure. Not so sure about the anti-ice top sheet yet, the snow became a bit sticky that day. I tried them in 60 cm ( +- 25") of powder in Manning park, BC , in the North Cascades. They kept me right on top of it.

I agree with everything stated in the other reviews. I am also a telemarker. I’m using the 22Designs Lynx mounted 2cm aft of boot center A great setup in my opinion. The skis are a dream with great float and superb turning. Due to the tele bindings I cannot use the Hyper version but I have no complaints as this setup is pretty light and cuts through the crud quite well. I also agree that they don’t glide quite so well on low angle hard pack. Overall a super design by Voile.

Heroes of Telemark
In a backcountry world dominated by AT and splitboard riders, it isn't easy to be a telemark skier. In fact, it never was; many of us still remember the leather boots and skinny skis we learned on.
But we're proud and stubborn, and in our hearts we've always known that with the right equipment, we could shred with the rest. The V6 BC give us what we've always needed: 98 mm underfoot for stability, scales for efficient touring, and rocker tips for flotation and snappy turns.
My wife and I ski mostly in California's Sierra Nevada. We bought matching pairs of 173's this year, and paired them with Voile's superb Switchback bindings, Scarpa T2 Eco boots, and G3 Alpinist skins. What a setup! Not too heavy for extended touring, and superb for turning, especially in powder. Our first time out, in mixed conditions near Carson Pass, we floated and turned effortlessly in the pow, and had all the rigidity and power we needed to carve through the crust. Then we summitted Waterhouse Peak on snow that had already begun its inevitable evolution to Sierra cement. Our descent through the trees was the most controlled, dominant, and fun run we have ever had on Waterhouse, despite the so-so snow. These V6 BCs have finally made us the skiers we always dreamed we could be.
Bottom line: Voile V6 BCs are true Heroes of Telemark. Try them, backcountry telemarkers, and see for yourselves. You won't be disappointed.

Love the V6!
I have owned the V6 BC for two years and it has been my go-to backcounrty ski. The V6 is nearly effortless to turn, has an easy to float tip and just enough waist width to keep me floating nicely in Colorado backcountry powder. I've been happy with its weight, although I'm excited to try the Hyper V6. The BC has scales that have been bitter sweet. I don't notice them slowing me down in untracked snow. They are extremely handy when I've skied into a creek gully or hit a small knoll on a descent and need a quick climb out. Transitions are nice because the ski doesn't slide away from you. I've even successfully kept up with my rando-race gear clad buddy on a mining road climb without skins. However the drawback is that the scales do stop me from gliding back down that same flat mining road descent such as we often find on the front range getting to and from ski terrain. In these cases my friends are long back at the car while I'm cross-country skating a couple miles back. You have to weigh the pros and cons. My next pair will likely be the Hyper V6 because I already know I love the way the V6 skis, the weight to surface area float is unmatched in the industry, and for me, I decided that I will pass on the fish scales next time.
