How to find the recommended mount point on a Voile Ski

Mounting a 3-pin binding on your Voile ski? You’ll need to know two key measurements:

  1. The recommended mount point on your ski
  2. The boot sole length (BSL) of your 3-pin Telemark boot

In this guide, we’ll walk you through finding both, ensuring a proper mount for your setup.

What You’ll Need

Before we dive in, gather the following tools to get the job done accurately:
– Tape measure
– Straight edge
– Masking or painter’s tape
– Pen
– Voile Boot Center PDF Chart (available on our website)

Once you have these on hand, let’s start by measuring the recommended mount point.

Finding the Recommended Mount Point on a Voile Ski

Each Voile ski has a manufacturer-recommended mounting point, which you can find using the Voile Boot Center PDF Chart. Let’s go through the process step by step.

Step 1: Locate the Mounting Measurement in the Chart

  1. Open the Voile Boot Center Chart.
  2. Locate your Voile ski model.
  3. Find the length of your skis and note the corresponding recommended mount point (__ inches from the tip).

Step 2: Measure from the Ski Tip

Now, take your tape measure and follow these guidelines:

  • Measure straight back from the tip of the ski.
  • Do not follow the ski’s contour—this will skew your measurement. Instead, pull the tape in a direct, straight line.

In this example, we’re using a 157cm Endeavor BC which has a Boot Center 34 1/2″ from the tip. Once we reach 34 1/2″ inches back from the tip, that’s our recommended mount point.

Step 3: Mark the Mount Point

  1. Place a piece of masking tape over the general area of the measurement.
  2. Recheck your measurement by aligning the tape measure again.
  3. Use a pen to mark the exact __inch point on the masking tape.
  4. With a straight edge, draw a clean line across the ski.

Now you’ve successfully marked your recommended mount point! This reference will be crucial when using a paper template or a jig for binding installation.

Measuring the Boot Sole Length (BSL) of a 3-Pin Telemark Boot

Your boot sole length (BSL) is essential for mounting 3-pin bindings correctly. Unlike standard alpine ski boots, 3-pin boots require measuring from the pin line rather than the full sole length.

Step 1: Check for a Labeled BSL

Some ski boots list the BSL near the sole. If your boot has this number printed, you can skip measuring! Otherwise, follow the next steps.

Step 2: Measure from the Pin Line

Since 3-pin boots have a 75mm duckbill with pin holes at the front, you need to measure from the center of the middle pin hole to the heel.

  1. Align your tape measure with the heel of your boot.
  2. Measure in a straight line the center of the middle pin hole.
  3. Record the measurement in millimeters (mm).

Example Measurement

For the boot in our example:

  • Measurement from middle pin hole to heel = 31.7 cm
  • Convert to millimeters: 317mm BSL

That’s the number you’ll use for mounting your 3-pin bindings.

Final Thoughts

By accurately finding your ski’s mount point and measuring your boot sole length, you’ll ensure a properly aligned and secure setup. Whether you’re using a paper template or a mounting jig, these steps will set you up for success.
