Thumbnail Filmstrip of Voile Hardwire 3-Pin Telemark Binding Images
The Hardware 3-Pin’s toe piece accepts any telemark boot with a standard 75mm duckbill. Unlike the “rat trap” bindings of yesteryear, the binding’s bail is a tempered, embossed, steel plate that locks down in any of three levels to accommodate varying boot sole thicknesses. The binding’s toe box is built of 6061-T6 aluminum and mounts to a 20mm nylon riser that ramps slightly upward to accommodate the rocker of many telemark boots.
The thing that really curls toes is the addition of our own brainchild, the Hardwire, a “non-cable” rod-and-cartridge-spring assembly that provides amazing torsional rigidity when making turns. This technology burst on the scene in 2002 in the form of the Voilé Hardwire Binding and has become a hallmark of Voilé’s modern tele bindings.
These days, cartridge springs are commonplace in the telemark binding category, but what still sets our Hardwire design apart is the accompanying use of threaded steel rods and heel assemblies rather than braided cable at each end of the cartridge. This eliminates the need for any sort of crimping weirdness or other gizmos that would otherwise be necessary to complete a toe-to-heel loop.
In the case of the Hardwire 3-Pin binding, the entire Hardwire assembly easily detaches from the toe piece to provide the utmost in touring and climbing efficiency, as well as a Plan B for getting you home in the unlikely event that the mechanism suffers trauma or is lost. And speaking of upward travel, the Hardwire 3-Pin features the same heel pad and dual-height climbing elevators as the Switchback and X2.
So whether you’re dropping into the Nordic curtsy, cranking parallel turns, or kicking and gliding, the Voilé Hardwire 3-Pin is as versatile as it gets.

Works great with Altai Köm skis!
I really like these bindings. They are very well made and have a lot of great features. They only lost a star because of how difficult the heel pin operation and installation was. I had to stretch the pins to get them to fit the heel pad, but one of them i stretched too far and it was constantly falling down while climbing. The forward heel pins I was able to install without stretching but they were so tight that I was barely able to operate them with gloves on.
These were definitely annoying problems and I felt that more guidance in the install instructions would’ve helped but overall the bindings performed fantastic on the Altai Köm 174 and I think they will hold up for decades to come.

The most underrated, 75 mm telemark binding ever
This is by far the best 75 mm binding I have ever used. The performance, durability and price is unmatched. This is the only telemark binding I have ever used where I have experienced zero failures. These bindings have held up in the bumps and the trees for almost 20 years. I have abused and skied these bindings hard, and they have delivered every day. Voile’s customer service is first class as well. I will be sad when the day comes that I no longer have boots to use with these bindings

A Beautiful Work of Art
The ice blue color matches my skis and entire kit. That's not the only reason why I ski these bindings. They are perfect for all mountain exploration. Going up? Perfect. A long traverse? Got that covered. Tele turn? Drop that knee as low as you could. Parallel Turns? Go for it! Snowplow? No problem.

I love my Voile Skis and Bindings
This is a combined review for this binding and the 180 BC Vector which it is mounted on. I have tried to make the transition to alpine touring because of my gradually advancing age and weakening knees but I keep coming back to telemark as my preference. I have used this setup for several seasons on the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies and I love the responsiveness of the skis and their ability to withstand a range of conditions. In the powder I truly feel like I am floating and don't feel the need to go with a wider ski (I believe they are about 96 mm under foot). The BC Vector has the fish scales which I have found have limited functionality except on shallow slopes and softer conditions. The bindings are solid as well. One frustrating part is that the heel piece on my bindings only came with a single, short climbing wire so my ascents aren't as efficient as I would like. I consider the longer climbing wire to be essential. I was having some challenges with control a few years back and then I tightened up the hardwire and the skis became considerably more responsive. I have never had any problems with the hardwire or the 3-pin system apart from the odd bit of snow build up in the toe piece. I do like having the option of having my toe locked in tightly without having to use the hardwire. Having said that, my ski buddy uses the SwitchbackX2 telemark binding and he can put on and exit his skis a lot quicker than I can. The quick exit is possibly a consideration in avalanche country. I am considering the Switchback X2 for my next purchase. All in all, I love this combination and Voile will be my first choice when considering additions to my telemark quiver.

Killer Set Up!!!
Mount these on any pair of Voile BC (fish scale) skis, and some light weight tele boots, and you have the best killer set up for backcountry touring and rolling terrain.

voile 3-pin hardwire binding...love these
I have been skiing this binding for 20 years and have tried other bindings. I have not found another 75mm binding that i prefer over the voile. This binding is pretty much bulletproof in my opinion. No issues in 20 years. The 3-pin is great for uphill along with the included climbing bails. In addition to all that the price is right.

3 pin hardwire binder
Simple, Solid, fantastic company to deal with. Been skiing on the hardwire since it was first introduced. East coast ice bumps, trees, and powder out west or just wondering off in the woods this binding works. The best way to sum up this binding is, once I'm in I never have to think about them. Trust they work and go have silly fun.

Freeheal2
This upcoming season will be my 57th year cross country , telemarking , free heeling . I have been a voile customer for quite a while. When the hardwire bindings came out I got a pair now have them on 6 pair of skiis, line Prophets, sick day, head monsters, Kore , etc. I sometimes get a bit of flack for being old school tele guy.... but if I happen to break a cartridge I’ve still can ski home with my pins. Just like back in the 60’s with wood and rottenfellas!
I like them, they work good and are reliable .
Cheers and Skiya Later

Simple, reliable, and effective
I've owned most Voile bindings now or in the past, the Mountaineer, Hardwire, 3-pin cable, Switchback, and a number of their earlier release tele bindings. This has been a bomber binding for my medium touring setup with Excursion or Garmont Veloce boots. I do miss the release feature and ski brakes, and wish they had kept making those, as my knees never feel as safe without them.
